I would def. not include balloons...they are a choking hazard for the little ones. And, please GOD! (pick one) do not include live goldfish. Yes...I know a mother that did that. No candy is tricky!
If you don't like some of the parents - you could give their kids the whistles. ~G~
I just love those bubbles.. although my Mum hated them when I was little, because I used to get them on everything (newly cleaned windows being a favourite). I guess the same might go for stickers. And whistles are obviously evil. So, what would you like people to give your little one?
danb: You must have a very understanding sibling! I have always wanted to give musical instruments, but am wary of losing the friendship of the child's parent!
I think laner has a good idea, give them books if budget allows; or the paper masks (possibly in different characters/ animals). It would be a lovely activity if the children could decorate/ colour their own as part of birthday celebration activites - I am sure any teacher would be happy to oversee it if you ask them in advance. Then they could use it for role play later, and at home if they get to take it home as well. Paper masks are a wonderful idea!

A small sheet of stickers each sounds fantastic. At that age, I couldn't get my son away from the stickers...

I say give the kids whistles. The playgroup staff will love you for it...
I use this rationale with my little neice. She now owns a guitar, a drum, a keyboard, a glockenspiel,...
dan... what, no bagpipes?

give them a learnin. give them books.
Mini crayons are snack food.
Stickers rock - unless you hate all the kids' parents, don't give them whistles!
