about Ben Hyde

( 25 / male / Tempe, Arizona, USA )

I have this obsessive need to read instruction manuals. I do it just to feel normal and to sleep peacefully at night. If I don't understand how something works I'll destroy it in the most horrific way possible until it has gone beyond recognition and understanding. This is the same approach I use in all my interpersonal relationships. I don't have many friends. Will you be my friend?

does the manual reading thing extend to those shitty little picture-manuals you get with flat-pack furniture?

My all time favorite, though, is that old D&D Boardgame Dungeon. Too fun.

Yeah, that is the trick - finding someone to play with esp. games that really need more than two people for maximum fun.

I like HeroScape, Arkham Horror (very cool - but it has a rule book that takes a long time to read and more pieces than...well...HeroScape).

I like the classics, too: Scrabble, Chess (though I am not very good at it!), Boggle (god I suck at it) and the various trivial pursuits...also, I'm a sucker for movie/tv tie in versions of games like Simpsons or LOTR Chess sets.

I also play too many video games (I'm currently on the wagon after my latest ElderScrolls Oblivion orgy. The xbox 360 is amazing.

I'm the head of the Teen Services Planning Team at my library district so all of the above is...uh...research into um....youth trends...yeah...that's it...research.

I love board games. Also, jigsaw puzzles - though they tend to make my latent ocd kick in and I have to be forced away from them at gunpoint. (Tetris (aka: my dark master) has a similar effect.

I found the bggeek site when I was looking for a mythical expansion rule list to a game called Dungeon that I played (uh...ok...I still play it, don't judge me!) when I was a kid. I wore out that game set and got a couple more copies from ebay since it is out of print lo these many years.

I actually carried a game card from this game in my wallet for a looooooong time. Yes, I am a geek. Whatcha gonna do?

    What is your favorite game?

Not really a yes or no question. Maybe you'd like to rephrase the question, or the answer, or tell us what you want us to do about it.

I have heard that first dates are more successful if you for at least part of the date you are moving around. The activity could be something as simple as going for a walk, or bowling, or hiking, etc... When you get your dating moving their endorphins will build and make them happier during the date. Of course you don't want to wear them out.

I studied abroad in Germany for a while and my German was atrocious. A lot of people under the age of 30 speak English pretty well, though, so it's not too hard to get around if you need. Besides, the best way to learn a language is to be immersed in the culture. A couple weeks in Germany will sometimes do you better than months of classes.

Regardless, it will be a great experience and a lot of fun. In Erfurt you'll be 3.5 hours away from Cologne and Bonn, 1.5 hours away from Leipzig, and 3 hours away from Berlin. All cities I recommend you should try to visit while your up in the Northern part of the country.
